How do you make video look like film?

Every element of production from concept to finished product has to be approached with innovation and creativity. This means that whether it is a low budget corporate to a high budget film or TV production the quality cannot be compromised. It is only by utilising the latest digital software available and combining that with passion and creativity that you are able to produce something unique, and raise the standard of digital film making.

Through research into the best example of this i have found a video production company called dynomite productions ltd, who specialize in digital grading for corporate video.

It is my belief that even the high standard corporate video can look cheap and formulaic compared to broadcast and film, and this really shouldn’t be the case. What digital video and digital grading allow you to do is manipulate the image to give it a film look, however it also allows you to take this one step further and use post production software as a canvas, so that you are essentially painting with pixels.

By combining this process with things like animation and motion graphics the final product is not what you would associate with low end or even high end corporate video but with broadcast or even film.

The biggest problem that people face is that they think you have too spend a fortune on the camera and equipment. Its true that in general the more expensive the kit the better the quality however for budding film makers out there, its important to realise that the camera is only a tool and the end result relies on how well you know how to use it and also by applying the post production techniques mentioned above.

Another area that is often overlooked in corporate video is storyboarding. Just because the budget is tight dosen’t mean that it shouldn’t be approached with the same level of professionalism that you would a feature film. There’s some great storyboarding software out there that lets you manipulate the lighting and completely construct the scene before any footage has been filmed.

Another area that has a lot of crossover is animation and video production. We have looked into the use of animation with video and have found that there is no set way to combine the two. Different styles of animation for example 3d animation, illustrated animation, motion graphics can be applied to suit different productions. The important factor is knowing the audience and knowing the customer, it is only by doing this that video effectively works both visually and in delivering the right message.

20f6

Dynomite productions are a video and animation production company, creating work for public sector, private sector and broadcast clients.

To see examples of our work please visit: http://www.dynomiteproductions.co.uk/index.php.
Alongside the corporate video we also create work for the broadcast industry Every production is approached with innovation and creativity which is only achieved by utilising different production methods such as animation and digital grading In order to find out more about how video could benefit your company contact dynomite productions for a quote.

Triangle lighting creates spectacular lighting for video interviews. Triangle lighting is just what the name implies, light from three sources pointed at one subject.

Triangle lighting takes a bit more work but the results are worth it. Next time you are watching any show that features lots of interviews, examine the lighting critically. Can you see the halo effect, evidence of a back light? How much difference is there between the bright side of the subject’s face and the darker side? How deep is the nose shadow ? Are the eyes lit clearly? Are glasses causing an annoying glare? Is there a splash of dappled light on the background? Triangle lighting is a common professional technique.

In triangle lighting, you have three light sources.

* Key light

* Fill light

* Back light

The key light should be the brightest of the three. As the name implies, it is your main light. The key light should be placed so it illuminates the majority of your subject’s face, and this usually means having your camera fairly close to the key light. The key light should be off to the side of the subject’s face about 30 degrees.

Your fill light should help do what the name implies, fill in the shadows created by your key light. Generally, you do not want to eliminate these shadows completely, you simply want to make them less dense so the key light should be less bright than your key light.

Your back light gives your subject what is called the “halo affect,” a bright rim of light which outlines the head and highlights the hair. It is very flattering and helps your subject stand out from the background.

Setting your back light can be a bit tricky. You do not want it to create lots of weird shadows on the face so it needs to be relatively dim and focused directly on the back of the head.

Problems with back lighting include glare into your camera and unflattering shadows on your subject’s face or shoulders. In order to avoid those problems, make sure the back light is placed enough to the side so it will not cause glare. To eliminate unwanted shadows, most back lights are fairly dim and rely heavily on barn doors. Barn doors are used to aim the light precisely where you want it and keep it off the places you do not. If you do not have barn doors, use aluminum foil. A special type of black foil is sold by professional lighting companies. It is not very expensive and works better than aluminum foil, but aluminum foil is functional. DO NOT use anything flammable, like newspapers.

Another gadget, called a snoot, works much like barn doors but in my opinion is better for back lights because it is easier to restrict your beam of light to your subject’s hair. A snoot is a black, metallic shield shaped kind of like a cylinder. It has a narrow hole in the front. Placed over the light, a snoot restricts the beam to a small circular one. Snoots are great, but not very common.

Triangle lighting can be modified by adding a fourth light, called a background light. This light is just to brighten up your background and can help add a sense of depth to your shot.

Since a bright background is a no-no (it creates a silhouette) the background light should be fairly dim. When you are watching high quality documentaries, like what is on the History Channel, most interviews are shot with intricate background lighting. The background lights are often colored with color gels and templates are placed over the light to give a dappled effect. Color gels are nonflammable plastic sheets you place in front of your light. They are cheap, effective and come in all colors. Color gels are a great, inexpensive way for a low budget video to increase its professional appearance.

The templates placed in front of light to create a dappled pattern are often made from foil. Rip off a sheet of foil, poke some holes in it and there you go!

Triangle lighting and its variations are perfect for interviews. However, even in the professional world, not every interview rates triangle lighting. Often, interviews are done with only a key light. Sometimes a key and a fill will be used. Sometimes a key and a back light will be used. It is all acceptable and any added light on an interview always looks much better than just relying on natural light. My habit was to light interviews but try to shoot supporting video (b-roll) in natural light.

Internet music marketing is a major struggle among many who have tried and failed repeatedly. I was one, however, I somehow persisted through until I was comfortable enough to teach about it. I’m here to briefly disclose 3 important techniques I’ve learned about online music promotion.

1) Your Fans – Your Business

A person does not like to be turned down by their idol by numerous ignored messages. The amount of messages you have not responded to over the internet, is approximately the amount of money missing from your wallet multiplied by $5, or whatever amount you sell your music or product for.

This doesn’t mean sit down and have coffee with every fan that gives you a thumbs up and you don’t even have to take them fishing. Just show that you care by responding to their messages. You can even go as far as asking them to put your banner and music on their page. You can get a PayPal account and begin paying your fans if you want. This technique alone can bring massive success in a short period of time and cut your internet music marketing efforts in half.

2) Great Websites

YouTube Make videos of yourself and most importantly, type in anything about making money with music and get free info!

Blogger.com – Blog about yourself all day for free and get paid for it through the Google AdSense program. YouTube will explain all of this through tutorials.

SoundStation.com – Easily sell your albums and mixtapes. Free to set up.

Myxer.com – Easily sell your ringtones which used to be free, but now there’s a low fee.

PressExposure.com – Write more about yourself all day for free.

CDBaby.com – For $35 get your music on iTunes, Amazon, Rhapsody, and more.

3) Internet Music Marketing!

It may seem obvious by now, but you have to promote! Many people don’t discuss this online music marketing tip however, I don’t feel like wasting anyone’s time pretending like everything you need was already mentioned above. My favorite music marketing technique is called keyword research.

You go into the Google keyword suggestion tool or the free word tracker tool and type in a broad music term. These tools will take the broad phrase and give you longer tailed phrases that you can easily rank for in the search engines by putting them on your webpage once every 100 words. You can also take these phrases along with the same method and write articles and blogs directing them back to a YouTube music video or your MySpace page to generate rich web traffic. More on this below.

230b

Most people settle for a job and a boss after getting nowhere close to their music dreams, even knowing this information. Slow income, to no radio play, this doesn’t have to be you & should have never been them.

No video production is perfect, but to help make yours the best it can be, here is a rundown of the most common mistakes novice video producers make.

1. VIDEO IS TOO BORING.

Ouch! Yes, that sounds a bit harsh but it is so very true. We all like to think that our video is so riveting that viewers will be enthralled with our masterpiece. Unfortunately, this is often just wishful thinking. Generally speaking, to hold a viewer’s attention, your video needs to be fast paced and told with some emotion. Dry facts do not do well on video so spice it up with some emotionally laden production techniques and a storyline. Adding music is the single easiest way to keep a video entertaining.

Make sure your opening is entertaining. DO NOT start off with credits. I am sorry to be the one to tell you, but few people give a darn about the credits, except for the video makers themselves. (And their mommies.) Start off with a bang and then pull back and give some of the more boring information. So many videos start off with credits that it drives me nuts. That is a blatant mistake that is very easy to avoid. Yes, Hollywood movies USED to start with credits, but notice how that does not happen anymore. Most movies now start off with an explosion. When they started out with credits most of the audience used that time to get popcorn.

2. VIDEO IS TOO LONG

This goes hand-in-hand with too boring. A long video tends to get really boring, even if it is generally of high quality. While there is no set length for video, SHORTER IS ALWAYS BETTER. Done correctly, a two minute video contains tons of information. BE CONCISE. No need to drag it out to ten minutes. Ten minutes is an eternity on video. The fact that in real life ten minutes flashes by like a nano-second is irrelevant. On video, ten minutes seems like forever.

3. VIDEO IS MADE FOR THE VIDEO MAKER, NOT THE AUDIENCE.

Ouch again! I’m feeling a bit mean here but again, this is true. I have seen it a million times. And yes, when I started in video production 30 long years ago, I was a major offender. As a video producer, you have to keep in mind who your audience is and what they want to see. You are not making this video for your own gratification. You are making it to impart information to strangers. What is their viewpoint? What do they already know and how do they feel about it?

You need to look at your finished video and put yourself in the typical viewer’s frame of mind. Look at your video as though you were seeing it for the first time. This is hard to do since you are looking at it for the ten millionth time but it is really important.

4. GOING OFF ON TANGENTS

Wow, is this ever easy to do. I do it myself. But straying from the main point of your video is one way to make a really long and boring video. Be laser focused. To help you do this, sum up the point of your video in one sentence. If you can not sum it up in one simple sentence then you need to re-think your premise.

5. EXPECTING TOO MUCH.

OK, I am guilty of this one too. I really thought my comedy election spoof was gonna make the Tonight Show. It didn’t. Sob, sob. But it does have a 5-star rating on You Tube! We all hear about the internet video sensations that get millions of views. It happens, but truth is, it is relatively rare. The more common scenario is for your precious video to get lost in the 60,000 daily uploads to You Tube. Getting viewers means you have to cultivate friends and subscriptions. Sprinkle the link back to your video all over the web on social bookmarking sites. Then, if your video has hit the right nerve, the viral effect will take over and your viewership will snowball.

There you have it, the top 5 mistakes in video production as seen by yours truly. I hope this article does not discourage you but rather encourages you to avoid some of the common mistakes so your video can be as effective as possible.

They post a new video episode every Wednesday on their website and it's pretty cool watching what other cities' food carts are like. I first started hearing noise about VendrTv when they cruised through Portland back in June and taped episodes at MoxieRX, Brunch Box, …

Here is a quick response to a question a reader asked the other day about how to green screen. He wondered how far the on-camera person should be from the green background. He said he was very frustrated because he had searched for an answer and everyone said something different. There was no consensus so he was confused. I explained that the reason no one seemed to agree is because the proper distance between the background and the on-camera talent is entirely dependent on the particular situation under which you are videotaping.

When you’re making a video using green screen technique, how far away from the green background should your on-camera person be? A reader asked this the other day and said he was very frustrated because he had searched for an answer and everyone said something different. There was no consensus so he was confused.

I explained that the reason no one seemed to agree is because the proper distance between the background and the on-camera talent is entirely dependent on the particular situation under which you are videotaping.

On a technical level, the distance is totally irrelevant. What matters is that the green background is an even color. No variations. Shadows are one of the chief problems that cause variations in color. The darker color of the shadow will cause the green screen effect to be uneven.

If the on-camera person is standing very close to the background, chances are her shadow will fall on the background. But if the on-camera person were twenty feet from the background, the same shadow would fall harmlessly on the floor, which is cropped out of the picture.

Problem is, most people do not have the luxury of that much room.

In an ideal situation, most professional videographers would place the on-camera talent at least five or ten feet from the background. This gives the talent a little breathing room and helps ensure an even background.

However, when I took a tour of ABC news studios, I saw them videotape a news update and the anchor person was smashed up against the wall. They shot the news update from her office, which was tiny. It looked great on the air. I could barely tell it was a green screen. It looked real!

The lighting in her office was extremely diffused so there were no shadows. The green behind her was homogenous in color which gave a beautiful green screen effect.

So if you have some room to play with, go for a distance of about ten feet. If you don’t have the room, do not worry about it. Just make sure your lighting is diffused so the shadows will be minimal or non existent.

If you have always wanted to be a film maker and create videos and films for TV, professional video production is the career for you. Video production careers are easy to come by, but actually becoming successful is entirely different. You can choose from various kinds of professional production including TV, corporate, and online.

When you start out in professional video production you will need to complete a degree. Many video directors and producers don’t, however, and still manage to make a success of their chosen profession. The key to becoming a success lies in your project choices, who you know, and how to get involved. Here are a few tips that you can use if you want to get a career in the video production industry.

Watch and Analyze Productions: When you start out you should take the time to watch programs. Watch any kinds of shows that you like and analyze them to understand the process. Video production involves many elements that you will have to know. This includes lighting techniques, sound production, camera angles, editing and more.

Get Equipment and Practice: Once you have figured out the main aspects of video production, you can start doing your amateur footage. This is just to practice, but where possible get a good camera, tripod, and practice some lighting designs. You can also get a few friends together to help you.

Join a School or Take a Course: If you are really interested after trying it out to pursue this as a career, look for a course. Studying goes a long way to helping you break into the industry. It will give you the practical details and technical information that you need to be taken seriously as a film maker. You can find schools online, take courses at a film college, study at a university full time, or take a few night classes. These all allow you to develop your skills.

Find your Calling: Once you have studied and know more about all the people involved in production, you can choose where you fit in. You might find that you prefer the lighting side of things as opposed to the directing. You might enjoy the cinematography, or perhaps even the editing. You might be good at animation and want to combine these two elements. There are lots of video production jobs that you can choose from.

Get a Show Reel: Once you have a clear idea of what you want to do in video production and where you fit in, you should create your show reel. This can include all the different elements of production that you are good at. You can include short dramatic sequences for documentaries, films, TV game show excerpts and more.

Apply for Jobs: After all of this, the last thing left for you to do is go out and look for a job. You should approach all kinds of production companies. This can be in advertising and media, television, corporate production, or creating online videos.

This article addresses the idea of incorporating documentary video elements into corporate video:

While it was once almost unheard of to find documentaries screening at the cinema, a massive growth in the popularity of documentaries has made it quite normal to view docos on the big screen. With the success of mega-documentaries like ‘Fahrenheit 9/11′, ‘March of the Penguins ‘and ‘Supersize Me’, it’s clear that there exists a strong demand for real stories featuring real people.

At the heart of this upsurge of interest in documentary video is an increasing interest among the public for more real and authentic stories featuring people they can relate too. As audiences become more visually literate they are seeking out stories and characters that say something to them about their own lives.

Businesses and organisations can draw on this trend by incorporating documentary elements into their video communication approach. Examples of this may be using actual employees or member to communicate the message in a corporate video, as opposed to only relying simply on actors.

Short interview-based video clips on your website are an ideal way to engagingly communicate information while, at the same time giving the audience a sense of the people involved in the organisation.

In thinking about how you can get your message out there with credibility and authenticity it is worth drawing on some of the elements that make documentary video such an engaging and powerful film form. By using documentary video production techniques you will establish a more authentic dialogue with your target audience.

The most important organizing tool to start with for a special interest or educational video production is to develop a shooting script. Much thought needs to go into your script because it will be the basis for additional planning.

There are scriptwriting computer programs available to get you started like First Draft, but you can also do this with any kind of word processing document or even a spreadsheet program like Microsoft Excel.

On this type of video production, you’ll typically set up your document in tables with three columns. This is called an audio/visual script format, as opposed to the one column format used for dramatic feature films.

Column 1 is for numbering your shots. Think of this as numbering each paragraph in an article. Numbering each chunk of your script makes it easy to group shots into location or time of day, and allows you to check off each one as it is completed. For example, shots 1,2,5,9 and 23 may share the same location or camera angle.

Column 2 is for camera direction. This is how you previsualize the shot or what the viewer will see as she listens to the audio. Describe in as much detail as possible what the viewer will be seeing or what the camera will be doing.

Column 3 is for narration and any other type of audio, like music or sound effects.

Get really detailed when writing your narration and deciding on your camera direction. The more specific you are, the easier it will be on cast and crew when you start production.

The script is just the starting point. Often, after you have written the script and envisioned the shots, you will make a detailed list of locations, props, time of day for shots, a call list for talent, etc. You may then want to group your shots by location, which often may not be the chronological order they are in within the script. This will make your shooting schedule so much more efficient.

Guerrilla video productions require the producers to carefully plan, prepare, and produce their programs keeping the technical limitations of video production in mind. In guerrilla video production, editing is usually the only post-production step. Many production companies use various look to drastically reduce their costs through guerrilla video production techniques.

Photography is the art of taking still pictures and freezing the moment whereas Videography or video production is all about shooting and recording a series of events as they happen.

Guerilla video production in general has caught on and grown very quickly over the last few years. Especially in areas like TV commercials. There are many companies that focus exclusively on such topics as real estate, company and private functions and the like.

At the professional level guerrilla video production can be categorized as studio or field production. There are of course many who have taken up video production as a hobby while a great many others choose to make a career of it.

Those offering Videography services record things like anniversaries, legal depositions, living histories, and home insurance records. There are various types and levels of video production. Today, a digital video camera and any one of many software packages will allow anyone to put together high quality video projects.

Lately many companies, both large and small have begun using video production companies to create motion pictures and videos for training and other purposes.

You are undoubtedly familiar with productions that can be seen daily in network television programming, the 30-second commercials that try to sell you everything from soap to sausage, and your favorite music videos. These ‘infomercials’ are often produced using guerilla video production techniques. Even though the production style is limited to a single video camera, these programs contain high quality visual and audio content.

Student productions are sometimes made for a classroom assignment, as part of a portfolio entry, to record an event, or as a segment of a video yearbook. Teacher productions are also often created to deliver instruction, to record a class for an absent or homebound student, to facilitate individual or small-group instruction, to provide a video “field-trip”, to eliminate unnecessary repetition in demonstrating a procedure or completing an experiment, or just to record an event.

With so many new demands being made on small business owners to expand their skills into media or video marketing, many small business marketers forget to adhere to basic video production tips that can improve their videos and most importantly, produce videos that will interest their customers in their product or service.

When filming, video marketers should keep the following tips in mind:

1) Make sure the subject is well lit. Invest and use an external lighting kit if you can. You can find several videos on Youtube, some that are produced by the Ford Models, worthy of watching because they discuss basic lighting techniques and how to achieve professional lighting.

2) Use an external microphone, preferably a lavaliere microphone, if your camera has an auxiliary mic output. The sound in most consumer cameras is often of poor quality and does not compare to the better quality sound many low cost external microphones deliver.

3) Monitor the audio with a set of headphones while rehearsing and recording. Don’t assume that you are recording good sound solely because the meters are bouncing! Run a small test to make sure your audio is good.

4) Make sure you record 30 seconds of what is called “room tone”, the sound of the quiet tone in the room. This prevents having a strange, empty nothingness of pure silence when editing your video.

5) Minimize crowd noise and background chatter; make sure you keep it quiet on the set. Let the sirens of emergency vehicles, cars starting and overhead planes pass before beginning filming.

6) Unless you are going for an intentional shaky camera effect, as exemplified in The Blair Witch Project, keep your camera steady and use a tripod.

7) Don’t zoom in and out too much. This technique is often the mark of an amateur video and can be annoyingly distracting.

When filming a ‘talking head’, try to position the subject toward either end of the frame. Divide the frame in thirds. This is usually much more visually interesting than a straight on head shot.

9) In addition, you can add visual variety, if you can use two cameras in order to shoot your subject from two different angles. Later on, you can cut between shots in the editing process which will improve your video dramatically.

10) And contrary to what most people think, make sure you spend most of your budget on a good copywriter who is experienced in video scriptwriting. This tip alone can compensate for poor or mediocre production values. The great filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock felt that when his script was completed, his film was essentially done. He felt that shooting and editing the film was not as important as a great script. And as a testament to his exemplary skill, many of his films are movie classics and have stood the test of time. You should view your marketing video no differently.

Producing a company video to market your company or deliver a message to potential clients and clients has proved to be a productive technique for numerous companies. Now add in the opportunity to use that video within an internet marketing campaign and the opportunities of reaching an even wider audience increase significantly. Before embarking on what can be a costly and time intensive exercise (if done incorrectly), here are a few things to consider when choosing a corporate video production company.

How big a production company do you really need?

You’re probably unlikely to be filming a Hollywood blockbuster but by taking into consideration the type and size of production company you should have, you will have a greater probability of keeping within your budget. There are positive aspects to working with a bigger production company for the reason that they’ll have access to more equipment, editing suites and a workforce who are on the books full-time. The ultimate product will look great but may come at a marginally higher cost.

Small or medium size video production companies can yield exceptional results and keep a project as lean as possible by crewing the shoot with freelancers who are paid on a film-by-film contract. These companies will probably generate the core of their work from small to medium-sized companies and will thus be used to working with reduced budgets.

Watch the showreel

Any serious specialist corporate video production company will be able to show you a demo reel of their most recent work. When you have refined the agencies that sit within your price range, assess their showreels and look at the quality of the visuals, audio, camera techniques and general production values.

Which video format?

Ask about video formats as this could reflect the overall cost. Will spending more on high-end formats increase the response to your film and accomplish the goals you have established for the production or will a less expensive alternative work equally well? A video that needs to be broadcast on tv requires a high quality format while a training video needn’t be top-end. In today’s market, High Definition (HD) provides a good trade-off between quality and cost.

Is the company professional in its approach?

Creating a professional corporate video it isn’t just about pointing a camera in the right place and shooting. A significant part of the work is in pre-production and the company you ultimately choose needs to have a professional approach to this element of the project. Once you have agreed on the budget of your video, the producer should create an outline (often known as a ‘treatment’) which is a working blueprint that establishes the schedule of the shoot and the equipment and crew needed.

This will also lay out the creative areas of your video such as style and content. You should talk things over with the producer and director so use the time to get a sense of whether they understand their own industry while also appreciating the needs of yours. They ought to provide valuable input but not be too pushy or ride rough-shot over your ideas. Video production is usually a collaborative process so make sure you can work together.

Finding a video production company online

We’re all becoming accustomed to finding what we want through the internet so seeking out a film production agency should be no different. Why go online? Because you’ll get an immediate feel of the professionalism of the company you’re dealing with depending on the calibre of their website along with the information they offer. A website will also have a showreel offering you immediate access to a demonstration of their work. Silverfish Media is a great example of a website that demonstrates these points.

First impressions count and a website will give you a valuable understanding of who you’ll be dealing with. If they hook you from the start, you’re more likely to get in touch and follow through with a commission.

Welcome to the third installment of YouTube Marketing: Insider Techniques. In the previous articles we have discussed many ways on how you can efficiently advertise your videos on YouTube. I will have to stress again that marketing isn’t marketing without putting into use killer strategies that will involuntarily attract traffic into your websites. This third installment will tackle additional techniques that you can definitely take advantage of to propel yourself to the top.

The first YouTube Marketing Technique that we shall tackle is about “lifestyle videos”

What are Lifestyle Videos?

These are videos about you, your family or you life in general. People are attracted to lifestyle videos because they are able to get a glimpse of who you are as a person. Make videos of you in the park with you family or your kids, or regular vacation vids will do. This will show your prospects that you’re a real person whom they can bank on and have business with and whom they can relate with. A real and good bond between you and your prospects is very important. This is where entirely good business starts. So make sure you do this and don’t just concentrate on making videos about your business.

Conferences, Conventions and Seminar Videos

The next important YouTube Marketing Technique that you ought to employ is making videos about the conferences, convention or seminars that you have been to. Part of marketing yourself as an authority is surrounding yourself with other leaders to put YOU in a better light with your customers. How do you do this? Interview a leading money-earner who is in your line of business. Interview somebody who is doing great in attraction marketing. Interview a top internet marketer. Interview a principal public speaker or the boss of your company. You can also interview principal money-earners outside of your company.

You could either post this video on YouTube or give it as a bonus to individuals who have joined or purchased your product or service

Proliferate your video all over video sharing websites

If you fancy to transport your video marketing efforts to a whole new level, you must become skilled at how to spread them into different video sharing websites. Aside from YouTube, there are many websites where you can upload your videos too. Upload them to podcast websites, other social media websites or social bookmarking websites. The more videos you upload the better your ranking will be. Google considers this as “relevant content”. The more websites means the more subject matter, therefore the better ranking. Video service is the service of choice for all leading internet marketers. So don’t think twice about using this system.

A good video service you can use is ttoreliableadvertiser.com or trafficgeyser.com. Use this system and I assure you that you will get positive results. Try it!

I swear that I times my paddle shrinks so … I have an Mac so I should have all the tools I need but I am an engineer and have never played with this stuff before but I can see that Tenergy05( Boz) can edit his videos so I will try too.
PORTLAND NEWS. Breaking news, pictures, videos from the city of Portland, Oregon … In a place as overwhelming as New York City, Portland native and award-winning film editor Karen Schmeer found a way to make it homey. She once lugged a platter of lasagna on the subway for more than an hour to a friend's house for dinner. She loved to bake and often showed up on friends' doorsteps with pies or a crowd-pleasing chocolate cake with her secret ingredient — sauerkraut. …

The hottest thing these days in internet promotion is video marketing. With video marketing you have the opportunity to hit the top position in the search ranking. If you employ correct video marketing techniques, you can increase the traffic upto 10 times, which is quite a significant increase. With this you can have a higher impact and deliver the product promotion with greater force as compared to the other traditional sources of marketing. This is also more focused and the cost effectiveness also can not be denied.

It is easy to make a video of the product reviews, or of the marketing techniques. If you have a product, simply making many different users of the product talk about your product, or some expert speak about the advantages of the product will surely leave a great impact on the viewer.

The video marketing techniques are already being employed for advertisements at Yahoo, MSN, and also on many major sites. One of the famous video marketing techniques is to have a professional giving consultation services on his area of expertise that even relates to your product. This has in fact become a market that has grown rather quickly. I am even mentioning a few statistical records that I could gather that show that you should employ these techniques to increase your business. When you add a video, it means that you are now opening your site to those one million people who watch videos everyday. Moreover, the response that you usually get from the viewers can jump up to 500%.

However, there are a few things that you can implement with the video to make it more reachable and effective. You can have the option in which the viewer can replay the video and also adjust the sound. This will ensure that they understand the video well even when at first play they could not and also they will be able to hear it well. You can also employ the ping technique, in which you can attract the attention of the search engine and also you will have a fast indexing. The search engines always give a preference to the content that is updated. So, you should make sure that you do every possible thing to have it updated.

You can employ all the different techniques and make a good video that shows how the viewer can benefit from the product will increase your score. However, one should be sure that the video is more focused on the target market and does not relate to the benefit of the business owner. It should bring out all the positive points of the product and also the points where it scores over the other products of the same range. These are the simple techniques, and the results that you can get will be extraordinary. The best part is that it will not even involve lot of money and is quite cost effective. So, I would personally recommend that you should go for video marketing and make the dollars with a faster rate.

2042

As an online marketer, you know the lifeblood of your business can be summed up in one word: TRAFFIC. If you don’t get enough traffic, you’re not going to make any money.

Now I am about to show you a simple, efficient, POWERFUL way to drive incredible amounts of traffic to your site with video marketing techniques…FAST.

Okay, so here’s quick and straight forward tips on lighting and shooting for a green-screen.

First of all, I will assume you have some lights, a green-screen and a camera. The rest of this tutorial will be about arranging them.

Now if you don’t already know, chroma green is a certain color that works well with cameras. You ever heard of a 4:2:2 color space? How about RGB? Well without making things complicated, most color information is stored in the Green space of the color channel (G) on your digital camera. So make sure that green-screen is the appropriate color.

1. First off: Lights

Lights are THE MOST IMPORTANT aspect of getting great quality separation of your subject from the green-screen – and ultimately – a good key. And when I say key, I mean when you bring the footage into your editing software, your subject separates well from the background.

This is what separates the pros from the amateur.

You can have the best acting, the greatest cameras, and the best crew but if you don’t successfully create this separation… Your green-screen will have those nice green edges, reducing realism.

No down to the details.

2. Use a back light

When I say this, I mean a light that illuminates the back of your subject. Sometimes this light is higher in the air, sometimes lower (I recommend about 20% higher than your subject) but it is ALWAYS pointing at the back of your subject (in between your subject and the green-screen). Put that light on a 45 degree angle. Getting one light per side (same angle, same height) is ideal.

So what does this do? Well it creates a subtle white “halo” around the edges of your subject. Like a small white or illuminated edge, it’s going to dramatically affect the quality of your key.

3. Light the Green-screen

I want to look at the green-screen and see an even covering of light. No wrinkles, no brighter parts, no shadows, perfect, even and green.

4. Choosing Lights

Ways of lighting that green-screen? A light on either side. Overheads and floor lights. They make Cyc lighting that casts an even light from the floor up (rent these from your local gear rental shop).

I use a four bank KinoFlo on either side of the screen depending on how much you expect the subject to move.

Back with more news for you today. It’s amazing how much good information there is on this stuff out there if you know where to look. Three in particular that I found really valuable were…

I've been working the past couple of days on editing the video from our journey. The ladies here in Portland – Laura, Erin, and Karin were all quite articulate and emotive during the process – and combining that with some of Mike's …

Your pretty into shooting photos and editing video yourself. Is that all just for fun? Yeah I love that shit! I've loved editing snowboard and skate footage since I was doing it on a camera and VCR. Get me in front of a Macbook and …

I think the best way to understand video production is to think of it as a PROCESS.

The process is always the same, whether you are producing a simple video or a complex one.

Here is a description of the process, step-by-step. It can be broken down into three phases.

Pre-production

Production

Post-production

Pre-production is probably the most important and the easiest. Even if you want to outsource most of the work, you can (and should) do most of the pre-production yourself. Pre-production includes everything you do before you ever touch the camera.

First, think about what you want your finished video to be. Ask yourself these questions.

Who is your audience?

What does your audience need or want to hear?

What does the audience already know?

What style of video would appeal to your target audience?

What is your budget?

What resources do you have readily available?

The answer to these questions will determine most everything else.

Next, think about what you should actually go and get on video tape. Do you need to interview experts? Do you need footage of specific things that represent your subject? Where and how will you video tape these things? Plan it all out. Make phones calls. Schedule crews, etc.

Write out a first draft of your script. Nothing needs to be carved in stone at this point, but a working script will help you collect all your thoughts.

A good script should be conversational. Pretend you are explaining the subject matter to a friend. What would you say to them? Write that down and then modify it by using more colorful words and better descriptions.

Video scripts are best if they use simple, short sentences. Avoid long, complex words that will be tongue twisters. Read it aloud to test it. Have someone else listen to you and get their reaction.

The production phase includes gathering all of your raw materials. All your raw video and audio. This phase probably takes the most work and know-how, especially if you are shooting everything from scratch.

Post-production is the phase where you take all your raw materials and assemble them into a finished video. Mostly, post-production means video editing. You add titles, music and other special effects during post-production.

There are many wonderful computer video editing programs that do a great job. Personally, I use Final Cut by Apple Computers. This is an advanced video editing program that allows you total control over every single aspect of your video. Most beginners would never want to fool with it. A beginner would be much better off with a simple program like Windows Movie maker or iMovie, which are both free. Those programs rely on pre-produced templates that make it much easier and less complex.

Sony Vegas Movie Studio is a popular program that is inexpensive and allows more control than the freebie programs but isn’t nearly as complicated as Final Cut.

Video editing is also a step-by-step process and I have many free tutorials here on video production tips.com that will help you.

So there you have it, a brief description of the process of video production.
